The opening speech was given by the V.C who introduced the Prof. of the day. Prof. Okafor was born on the 17th April 1958. He is happily married with three (3) children. The Prof. noted that he has completed his missionary journey and the second is ongoing, to be completed when he is 70 years of age. He therefore went ahead to list out the accounting models. He defined mentoring as a relationship between a mentee (younger) and a mentor (older). He also mentioned that human resources are the most valuable assets of an organization. He quoted a verse in the bible; Ecclesiastics 3 vs 5 to show that younger generations are next in line to take on as it will get to their time.
He thereafter went ahead to list some attributes of teamwork which includes common value, common purpose, common plans, obvious leadership, continuous evaluation and appraisals. The crowd was amazed as he used bible stories to explain what teamwork is. He noted that teamwork helps achieve ones goals. He therefore enlightened the crowd that unlike other courses or studies like physics and chemistry, accounting always derives different answers to questions proffered. He defined an accountant as a trained capitalist. The venue was packed full as students trooped in to learn more about the models of accounting. He enjoined the guests not to be afraid to mentor others as in the process you gain more knowledge. The lecture therefore ended with the Prof. being decorated by the VC amidst his immediate family.
